Building a new market place area in Gallowgate Square is continuing week as part of the Largs Masterplan proposals.
The former Gallowgate Square is being demolished as part of the new build.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council, said: “The improvements to Gallowgate Square will help create a flexible event space, which could host small concerts, farmers’ markets etc, and will help make a huge difference to the heart of Largs. To achieve this, the water feature will be carefully removed and given its local heritage value, we will retain the fountain in a safe place.
“The works at Gallowgate Square are scheduled to begin in the New Year.”
The council also pointed out that while they had not received any requests regarding an alternative location to be found for the water fountain, but it will be held in secure storage should requests be made.
