Married Largs couple Dale and Sandra McIntier face an anxious few weeks as the outcome to their appeal over Dale’s deportation to the United States will be decided.
An appeal to the Home Office decision in Glasgow was heard last Wednesday in a bid to reverse the decision of Dale of Idaho, USA, having to leave the country to return to his homeland, despite the fact he provides round-the-clock care for Sandra, 65, who is disabled, suffering from cancer and a genetic bone disorder.
Dale admitted it was a worrying time, and said: “It will be a few weeks until we hear the decision. The judge we had seemed a lot nicer, and I gave our solicitor the link to the STV interview that we did, and the petition, which was presented at the hearing.
“We have had some great public support, with over 13,000 signatures on the petition, and I think our lawyer put forward a good and strong argument. I think the fact that Sandra and me have been married for seven years had hardly been addressed first time round. It was overlooked, but at least they seem to have taken this into consideration this time.
“The judge said he would take his time to look at the matter carefully; we are a little bit more hopeful, but it is still a very worrying situation.”
Dale and Sandra thanked the community for all their support, and also said that MP Patricia Gibson had been a great source of help.
Dale admitted: “It has been a strain for two years, going on three. We have had all kinds of public support, but we now just have to wait and hope.”
