Readers have been asking why the Largs Campus site has been operational on a Sunday.
Residents had been told that Saturday work would be exceptional and only necessary if work was behind schedule, and that there would be no Sunday work at all.
Nearby inhabitants had been informed  that the project was ahead of schedule yet Saturday work is the norm, and once again the site was operational from early Sunday morning during a recent weekend.
Angry residents took up the issue with Largs Community Council, and the ‘News’ has taken up the matter with North Ayrshire Council.
A council spokesperson said: “Works are progressing well and on schedule.
“There are occasions when the Contractor needs to carry out works when the full complement of subcontractors are not on site and Sunday working allows for these operations to take place in order to maintain the project programme.
“The works being undertaken are generally inside the building and therefore should not affect local residents.”
Building works on the campus should be nearing completion over the coming weeks with the new school building set to open in March.
This latest investment is in addition to the £44m school campus redevelopment in the town, which comprises both state of the art educational facilities, and community space.
There will be a wide range of spaces that will be available to the public for use after schools hours including three large halls – each with bleacher seating - a dance studio, gymnasium, changing facilities, a fitness suite, a conference room and meeting rooms. Externally, there will also be seven-a-side 3G synthetic football/hockey pitch with floodlights.
Due to open in March 2018, the project includes the relocation of Largs Academy and St Mary’s Primary School plus a new additional primary school created by the amalgamation of Brisbane and Kelburn Primary Schools.
The Campus is being built on the grounds of the SportScotland Inverclyde National Centre at Burnside Road, allowing the 2000 pupils accommodated in the new development access to state-of-the-art sporting facilities once the school is handed over to the local authority next year.
Largs Campus is part of North Ayrshire Council’s biggest ever capital investment programme which will see improvements to the school estate worth £140 million, delivered over 10 years.
