A three month period will be taken to demolish Largs Academy once it is vacated at the end of the March, and a new ‘flagship’ £19.5m housing development will rise from the ashes in its place, opening in Spring 2021.
North Ayrshire Council is planning to develop 122 new homes at Flatt Road, Largs, following on from the council’s £50m investment in the new Largs Campus.
The site will comprise of the following: 54 two, three and four bedroom general need houses, 28 one and two bedroom sheltered homes, 18 one and two bedroom amenity bungalows, and 22 one and two bedroom supported accommodation units.
The 22 unit core and cluster accommodation unit is design to provide long-term accommodation for people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and/or mental health issues, who require additional support in order to live independently. The plans include a staff base to enable a 24/7 responsive service to meet the support needs of those residents.
There will be wheelchair accessible homes incorporated throughout the whole site.
The main contractor for the project will be appointed once the design of the site is finalised. It is anticipated that the works will take place from Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and 8am to 1pm on a Saturday.
