Detectives are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted in Largs on the early hours of Sunday morning.

Around 1.10am, police received a report of a man unconscious outside The Lounge in Main Street, Largs. Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital suffering from a serious head injury. He has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff describe his condition as serious.

Enquiries carried out so far indicate the man had been assaulted.

Detective Constable Grant Currie said: “We are in the initial stages of the enquiry and we are trying to establish the circumstances of what has happened and exactly where it happened. A young man been attacked and has suffered a significant head injury. I am appealing to people who were out and about last night in the Main Street in Largs to contact us. Perhaps you saw something which didn’t seem important last night but in light of the attack on this young man, your information could prove vital to helping us establish what has happened and trace whoever is responsible for this attack.
