Two Largs youths from Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing have been selected to join the GB rowing team, competing in Antrim in July in the Atlantic Challenge.

Teams from across the world compete and Cameron Hughes and Iona Macaulay-Smith , (19 and 16) are two of the GB team.

Cameron has not long left Largs Academy and Iona is in S4. They are two members of only five selected from the whole of Scotland, and it is fantastic recognition for the coastal rowing community group, which is based at Largs Yacht Haven.

The Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club is a self funded community based rowing club established in 2012. They row their two self built St. Ayles skiffs, Saltire and Thistle, out of Largs Yacht Haven, and strongly adhere to the St. Ayles coastal rowing ethos of community spirit and inclusiveness.

Their website states: "As a club we have become well established and popular in the coastal rowing community both at home and abroad. We pride ourselves on being a very sociable club and attend numerous regattas and events throughout the year both near and far.

"Coastal rowing is great way to enjoy our beautiful coastline, make new friends and keep fit. Whether you are interested in social rowing or racing, boat maintenance or just helping a great community based club, we welcome all new members. Our rowing sessions and contact us are listed below, so why not come along, meet our members, give it a try and join the coastal rowing community."
