West of Scotland list MSP Jamie Greene has written to the Scottish Government concerning the future of the Hunterston land.
Speaking to the 'News', Jamie said: "Naturally we are not taking sides with any particular argument for or against one proposal over another but I have a duty to forward concerns from the community to the government."
In his letter to Mr Keith Brown, Cabinet secretary for economy, jobs and fair work, Mr Greene pointed out that given the amount of public money that has gone into subsidising the infrastructure of the site, and the companies who have managed it - British Steel, Clydeport, and Peelports - that there were community pleas, which have been put forward at recent Cumbrae Community Council and Fairlie Community Council meetings, for a change of direction.
The point which had been put forward at these meetings which had gained community council support was that the site is 'ideally positioned to become Scotland's showcase of its world class technologies' such as a modern green energy technology and enterprise park, including an onsite 5MW solar farm. It was also put forward that the site could host energy storage, data storage, electric transport research and tidal energy research.
