Going for Gold

Largs Academy are note perfect as they head to Perth for a national competition.

The school band received an impressive Gold at the Scottish Concert Band Festival competition in Livingston recently and will now go to the Perth final in March. The band played with skill, testament to the talents and hard-work of the young musicians and their instructirs Mrs Montgomery and Mrs Harris.

Classchat wishes our band lots of luck for their efforts next month!

Developing the Young Workforce

Senior pupils, Parents and Carers from S3 -S6 participated in a ‘Career Pathways Evening’ supported by our college partners who presented on the different courses available at Ayrshire College and West College Scotland. Pupils learned how to apply for Foundation Apprenticeships and other vocational courses which will complement their timetable of subject choices at Largs Academy. The evening was supported by Largs Academy’s own ‘Beanstalk Barista’ team who were complimented by all on the quality of the coffee and their polite customer service.

Career Network

Meanwhile S3 enjoyed a ‘Career Network Event’. This busy morning provided our S3 pupils with the opportunity to learn about a variety of different careers and ask the visiting professionals questions about their field of expertise. Pupils learned about the skills and qualifications required for the many different careers represented and this will enable them to make more informed subject choices. Additionally, pupils participated in a life skills course delivered by Barclay employees to help them recognize their personal skills and attributes. Any pupil requiring more guidance with option choices should speak to the Guidance Team, Paul Aitken (Career Advisor) or Joanne MacLean (Acting PT DYW) who will be happy to help.
