Flower beds on Largs esplanade are being removed on one area of the seafront esplanade due to council cost-cutting.
The issue emerged after Largs man Ian Dippie highlighted the issue to the 'News' that planted areas were being levelled off last week.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Largs is an area where the grounds are always well maintained and while this will continue for 2018 some of the flower beds will be removed and others reduced to help us meet necessary savings. We have chosen ones that we feel will have the least impact on the overall visual appearance of the area.
“There will also be poppies on display in flower beds in Largs this year to commemorate the centenary of the end of the first World War.”
