Largs Agricultural Society held its annual dinner in the Willowbank Hotel last month.
In a major break with tradition the guest principal speaker was Mrs Wilma Rogers, the first time a lady has ever attended the function. Wilma entertained the company with a series of anecdotes and humorous tales. She is a well-known and very popular local speaker.
The Toast to the Society was proposed by Ronnie Munton who, as a past Secretary/Treasurer, is an Honorary Member of the Society. Ronnie reminded the company that while the Annual Dinner dated from 1934, the activities of the Society stretched back into the late 19th Century and he exhorted those present to come to Largs Show which is always held on the second Saturday in June at Ardgowan Policies, Inverkip.
The President, Billy Scott, gave a report on last year’s Show when, due to inclement weather, entries were slightly down but nevertheless it was a successful event and Billy reminded the company of some of the local prize winners.
Musical entertainment was provided by Papa Booch and the Amigos, much to the enjoyment of the company.
Past President, John Menzies, delivered a comprehensive vote of thanks which included the piper, Frazer Blair and the staff of the Willowbank Hotel.
