Largs Community Council raised concerns over confusing signage on Anthony Road, at the south side of Largs, indicating that it was also going to be closed this weekend.

However, Scotland Transerv have confirmed that is not the case, and said: "The signage relates to the start of the diversion, with signs placed at Bankfoot Roundabout and Haylie Brae for southbound and northbound traffic respectively.  "However, due to the narrow footways at Haylie Brae, the sign has been placed at Anthony Road."

Motorists and the public in general are advised to plan ahead for road resurfacing works which will results in road closures of three successive weekends in April.

The first stage of the £1m resurfacing works will take place on the A78 north of Largs on Friday 6 April.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Road Design Engineer added: “Due to the limited available road width of the A78 it will be necessary to close the trunk road to ensure the safety of our workers and of the travelling public. This unfortunately will mean weekend diversions. We would therefore ask drivers to carefully plan their journeys.”

The road closures are as follows:  Largs North, 8pm Friday 6th to 6am Monday 9th April. Resurfacing of approximately 1km of A78, Skelmorlie South, 8pm Friday 13th to 6am Monday 16th April. Resurfacing of approximately 1.1km of trunk road, and Wemyss Bay, 8pm Friday 20th to 6am Monday 23rd April. Resurfacing of approximately 0.8km of trunk road adjacent to the Wemyss Bay ferry terminal.
