Largs AD Paton butchers is sizzling once more with a superb win at awards ceremony celebrating excellence in the industry.
The Largs black pudding was judged the best in the south of Scotland when the regional heat of this year’s Scottish Black Pudding Championship was held on Tuesday 17th April at the Garfield House Hotel, Stepps.
And the long established Aitken Street butcher have fine form, having won the South West of Scotland title last time the competition was held in 2016 and previously in 2010, and will now go forward to represent the region at the Scottish Final to be held later in May.
The black pudding will be purchased by a mystery shopper and tested against the winners from the other four regions of Scotland.
These will be from the East of Scotland champion from Kinross, West of Scotland champion from Strathaven, North champion from Inverness and South East from North Berwick. A panel of experts will then decide who has the best butcher’s Black Pudding in Scotland for 2018.
Making the presentation, Douglas Scott, Chief Executive of the Scottish Craft Butcher said: “Scottish Butchers develop their meat products in partnership with their customers. Their feedback is very important and butchers can react quickly to changing consumer tastes since in most cases they make their black pudding on the premises. This competition once again showcased the high levels of skill and pride in product among the independent butcher’s sector. I am certain that this event confirms to customers that it is worth making the effort to shop at their local butcher.”
Delighted owner Scott Paton was thrilled with the win, and is pictured receiving his award from Harry Simpson from sponsors Dalziel Limited.
