A GOLDEN couple from Largs will celebrate a special anniversary in top gear - by going on a trip to Silverstone to see the British Grand Prix.
Kate and Allister McGregor are 72 and there is no sign of the duo slowing down, with church duties, bowling, arts and crafts interests, and lots of grandchildren to keep them busy.
The well known couple grew up in Helensburgh and although they went to school in the same year, they never actually met until a church badminton club, when Allister was a junior West of Scotland champion.
Love soon blossomed and Kate and Allister were married at the Park Church in Helensburgh.
It was a double wedding as Kate's sister married Hugh Swayne who sadly died two years ago.
Allister and Kate moved to Largs in the 1960s when Allister got a job with the Guthrie group printing press in Ardrossan.
When the Largs and Millport News moved its printing production from Largs to Ardrossan, Allister saw an opportunity with his friend, the late Tommy McCaw, to take over the Largs printers as their own business, and so Largs Printing Company was born.
They worked long hours getting the business firmly established, starting at 7am and finishing at 10pm with Kate helping out, complete with pram, knocking people's doors to see if they wanted headed notepaper and by delivering parcels.
Allister meanwhile went to night school two evenings a week to get up to speed with the industry.
Largs Printing Company marks its 50th anniversary next year and Allister has been at the forefront during the evolution of printing.
Although he retired seven years ago, handing over the reins to sons Scott and Stuart, he still pops in most mornings to help out.
Another son, Andy, is a respected playwright, composer and director and helped set up Largs Youth Theatre with Marianne Yeomans,.
The couple also have a daughter, Aileen, who received a first class honours in politics and economics, and is a trained stockbroker.
With 11 grandchildren from the age of ten months to 24, the couple certainly have their hands full.
Allister was session clerk at St John's Church for 10 years, and now he chairs the congregational board, travelling to Malawi with St John's Church reverend Andrew McGurk to set up an equivalent church in Africa.
As well as having a passion for woodturning, he is also an honorary president of Largs Colts football club.
Kate is well known artist, and a member of Largs Writers and Largs Bowling Club, and Mr & Mrs McGregor live in Haylie Gardens.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
Asked for the secret of a long marriage, Kate said: "Having a good sense of humour.
"And having the grandchildren certainly keeps you young - we don't educate them, they educate us, with a little bit of help from Google!"
