Largs Academy pupils shone in their new surroundings for the Movies and Musicals school show at the end of term.

It was thoroughly up-to-date too with songs from 'The Greatest Showman' to venerable classics such as 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Miss Saigon' and 'Wicked'.

In previous years, the Academy school shows have taken place at Barrfields Theatre at the Vikingar! but with the recent move to the new school, the decision was taken to host the showpiece event within the brand new surroundings, and all the children certainly lifted the roof off with some dazzling performances.

Well done to all the individual performers: Katie Bell, Milo Alcorn, Finlay Quinn, Anne McCarron, Madison Cozens, Christopher Haggerty, Isabelle Winnington, Aidan Phillips, Rhionna Inwood, Grace Phillips, and Eilidh Kirk.

The S1 Drama Club also carried out a very enjoyable comedic extract from 'Tally's Blood' which provided much mirth thanks to the performance of S1's Meghan!

There were many highlights throughout the show from Grace Phillips who sang "Part of that World" from "The Little Mermaid" to Eilidh Kirk sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables to Aidan Phillips 'Mr Cellophane' from Chicago and Milo Alcorn's 'Me'.

And the show built up to a marvellous crescendo with the senior choir singing 'This is Me' from The Greatest Showman which was an uplifting and powerful number to finish the night off with and gained much acclaim.

There was even an Abba medley and it was certainly once again a case of 'Thank you for the music' to Largs Academy, and proud head teacher Heather Burns was delighted with the high standard.

She said: "When we moved in at first to the new campus, we thought that everything had moved with us, but as the weeks have gone by we have realised that there are some books, some tables and the odd picture missing, but my goodness the talent came with us, and what talent we have seen at the school show.

"The singing has been fantastic - and it was marvellous to have the drama sketch too.

"A huge thank you to Mr Beattie and Mrs Newton who did the lighting and the sound and I thought it sounded brilliant.

"Our award winning concert band welcomed us all in, and congratulations to the Largs Academy Music Department for inspiring the children once more to such high levels.

"Mrs Lawson who was directing a few of the numbers tonight, unfortunately we are losing her, but I just want to say all the very best - she has been an amazing positive influence for this school.

"I know that the pupils and staff want to wish her all the best as she moves to Garnock Academy - our loss is their gain.

"Finally, to the young people on the stage, you are professional and fantastic, and there were a few tears from me as well I was trying to hold back.

"It has been well worth it, and I know there are plans for expansion with the music department - I hope you all come back to the show next year for bigger and better things."

And at the end of the show, music principal Craig Smith revealed that next year's big school production will be 'High School Musical' and the planning was just beginning!

The Music Department involved would like to thank everyone involved in producing and starring in the event, and gave special thanks to Stephen McDonald and Beyond Beauty for their kind donations.
