A LARGS institution has been praised for 'chipping' in with a big donation..

Gino’s Fryer organised a raffle to raise funds for the charity and ticket sales brought in over £200.

The chip shop's generosity did not end there, as owners Franca and John Paul Sheridan decided to doubled the donation.

It meant a cheque for £468 was handed over to the foodbank, giving them vital funds to replenish their stocks.

Foodbank volunteer Francis McGinlay “Everyone at the foodbank was delighted with such an unexpected donation.

"Anything we receive is always a reminder of how kind our community is.

“These kind donations enable us to continue providing a wee safety net to anyone going through a hard time.

“We would like to thank the whole team at Gino's Fryer for all the energy they put into organising the raffle and in particular to Franca and John Paul for doubling it.”

Franca told the News: “We decided it seemed fitting, that since we are a food business we should donate to the foodbank.

"One of our staff volunteers there, so it just seemed like a great opportunity.

“I’m sure that we have customers that at times have needed the service, so it's great to have the opportunity to give something back to them.

“We couldn’t’ believe how many tickets we were able to sell, the people of Largs are so generous.

“We decided to match the donations because we knew it would go back to the community.

“We try and fundraise regularly or help in the area where we can.

“It’s nice that we can help out people who help to keep us going.”
