This coming Sunday, the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group will continue their season of Steam Days 2018 at the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre, Dunaskin.

The series of popular Steam days continue throughout August, right through to (and including) Sunday 2nd September.

The Centre have now EXTENDED THEIR RAILWAY, and now operate a 1 Kilometre section of the former coal railway from Waterside towards the old Chalmerston Opencast Mine, having agreed a lease with the line's owners, Hargreaves. So come along and enjoy an extended ride.

There will be a locomotive in steam, and the popular brake van rides will be in operation. The Centre will be open from 11.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. (last admission 4.00 p.m.) Everyone is welcome to come and view the steam and vintage diesel locomotives in the care of the Group. The large museum, the shop and the Signal Box Café will be open. The Centre’s modest admission charge covers all attractions.

The Group’s regularly steamed locomotive, ‘N.C.B. Ayrshire Area No. 10’, which was built by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co. in Kilmarnock in 1947, will be in steam hauling brake van rides. This locomotive has spent all its life in the Doon Valley.

The Centre, and its collection of rolling stock and locomotives, is maintained and operated wholly by volunteers, all funds raised by Steam Days is put straight back into the Group’s funds towards the maintenance and restoration of all items in the Group’s care.

Please note that a section of the A713 Ayr to Dalmellington road will be closed for re-surfacing and impoovements, please follow the diversion signs or take an alternative route to the Centre. WE WILL BE VERY MUCH OPEN!

Last year, over 3,000 visitors to the Centre enjoyed the sights and sounds of a bygone era. The Group is looking to increase the number of visitors this year, so why not come and enjoy some pure nostalgia at Dunaskin this Sunday, and any Sunday throughout the summer?
