Concerns over coal dust during the recent decommissioning works at the Peel Ports construction yard resulted in a complaint to environment regulators.
A spokesperson from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) said: “Every day SEPA works to protect and enhance Scotland’s environment and we are clear that compliance is non-negotiable.
"SEPA received a complaint from a member of the public on Friday 3 August regarding coal dust at a local property. This coal dust event had ceased at the time the complaint was made.
"SEPA is currently carrying out an investigation into this and is in contact with Peel Ports.
"We would advise members of the public to contact our Pollution Hotline on 0800 807060 when they are affected by dust from Hunterston Coal Terminal in Fairlie and SEPA will investigate.”
