Millport's patched up football pitch has been given the red card from users.

A football match in Millport is taking place on Monday evening to raise the profile of the patched up astroturf pitch at the Garrison grounds.
Island correspondent Mary Currie said: "The guys who meet on a Monday night at the astroturf in Millport are organising a match for all the kids at the West Bay football pitch to once again highlight the state of the astro recently repaired by North Ayrshire Council."

The match is being organised by Ross Newton after a suggestion by Mary Currie who with her grandson Jordan started a campaign to get the popular astro repaired, which Cumbrae Community Council also joined.
The match will take place on Monday 27 August at 6.30pm, with a 6.45pm kick-off.

T-shirts for using as strips will be provided by Island Express as a donation, but maybe the adults could bring their own t-shirts preferably white or red.
The game will give the kids a chance for once to play on a surface suitable, albeit with no lines. Everyone is invited to go along and support the event.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “Like all astro turf repair works of this nature, it will benefit from both use and weathering in. The more it’s played on, the better it will get.

“As the repairs are still fresh, having only been carried out last month, the astro turf may still be settling in. However, following an inspection we are satisfied that the pitch is fully playable.

“We would advise the kids to continue playing on the pitch and hopefully their usage will help resolve any issues they are experiencing.”
