The big end of year Millport September Illuminations Weekend celebration takes place this weekend.

It is fun for all the family with the sand sculpture competition between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Newton Beach.

The competition has two levels, each with their own trophy; the Family Entry where the whole family can participate, the Child’s Entry where there has been no adult participation. To enter, turn up at Newton beach, choose a spot where you want to build your sand sculpture and go for it.

Other events include the fancy dress competition, crabbing competition, Mini Millport's Got Talent, and there are a raft of competitions taking place throughout the weekend for residents. shops and businesses.

There is late night shopping on Saturday night culminating in the big fireworks display at 8.15pm on the seafront.

'People’s Choice' is a fairly new competition which is decided by members of the public. Voting slips can be picked up at various places throughout the town. The completed voted slips should be handed into The Crazy Golf or The Royal George Hotel by 10.30pm on Saturday.

The list of competition winners will be in shop windows as early as possible on Sunday morning

Mini Millport's Got Talent and the prizegiving is now taking place at the Primary school gym after the DA Hall was damaged by a fallen tree, and the alternative site of the Garrison marquee was affected by high winds yesterday.
