Ship shape ... Wee Cumbrae owners, Sam and Sunita Poddar, have entered talks with Greater Cumbrae over a boat link

The new Little Cumbrae international yog retreat looks set to bolster links with its big sister Greater Cumbrae.

The Garrison Development manager Jane Cook has been in talks with the owners of Little Cumbrae, Sam and Sunita Poddar, to look at potential avenues in which to bolster the transport infrastructure, and in turn, help provide economic spin-offs.

Speaking to the 'News', Ms Cook revealed that talks are continuing concerning making Greater Cumbrae as the major stepping stone in terms of transporting people to and from Wee Cumbrae's new haven.

With Little Cumbrae set to employ up to 100 personnel on the yog retreat, Ms Cook said it represented a good business opportunity for Millport.

She said: "Can you imagine if we get a good ferry service, the potential which is on offer for linking the two islands with Greater Cumbrae being used as a base? There would be potentially a lot of employment opportunities and we would be quite happy to facilitate that. We have spoken to the Poddar family and it is our intention to be the transportation hub for Little Cumbrae. We have said to the family that it would make sense for Millport to act as a transportation link."
