Gala Parties
This year’s Gala Parties for Fairlie youngsters will be held in the Village Hall on Friday 19 August. There’ll be a Fancy Dress for 4-8 year olds, with party games and dances, and a prize for the best costume (on the Gala theme of Wild West v. Pirates). This will be followed by a Murder Mystery Party for 9-16 year olds, with fun and games, and a prize for the person who unmasks Blackbeard’s killer! Parents are reminded that permission forms should be returned before the parties – if you don’t have one, they’re available from Fairlie Community Association on 07958 048908 or at fairliecommass@gmail.com.
Ballet Classes
Fairlie Community Association’s ballet classes for youngsters aged from 3 years upwards will restart in the village hall on Tuesday, 23rd August from 3.30pm. If you have a youngster who’s interested in dancing, further information and enrolment forms are available by e-mail at fairliecommass@gmail.com or by calling or texting 07958 048908.
Vocal Coaching
From 23rd August, Helen Lothian, classical singer and music teacher, will offer group vocal coaching in Fairlie Village Hall on Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. The classes will cover breathing, vocal and singing technique, voice production, adding drama to performance, etc., while learning songs individually and together. Suitable for everyone who likes to sing, whether it’s just for enjoyment or for exam or audition preparation. The minimum age is 14 (there’s no maximum age!), but please note that there are a limited number of places available. Yoga
General morning yoga classes will resume in Fairlie Parish Church on Monday, 22nd and Wednesday, 24th August from 9.45am to 11.15am. There will also be a new evening yoga class for men, commencing Monday, 22nd August from 7.30pm to 8.45pm. All classes are suitable for beginners, and mats are provided. Bowling Club
Sadly, the Nanna French Ladies Open Pairs had to be abandoned after the initial stages on Friday due to torrential rain. On Saturday the Bill Black Memorial was played with a good turnout. The winner was Alan Rodger's team - congratulations to them! Ladies are reminded that preparations are under way for the Coffee Morning on Saturday, 3rd September.. Tickets costing £2 will be available from Tuesday, 16th August, and all donations of home baking or help on the day will be gratefully appreciated.
Art Club
Fairlie Art Club get together in Fairlie Village Hall on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm to paint, swap advice and chat. Workshops, DVD instruction and demonstration evenings are also organised. The club will restart on 23rd August - contact Marion on 560300 for further information.
Zumba
Zumba dance fitness classes are held in the Village Hall on Tuesday mornings from 10am to 11am and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm (and from 25th August there will also be a Thursday morning class from 10am to 11am). Zumba is great fun, and you can put in as much (or as little!) energy as you want. There’s no need to book, just go along and pay at the door (£4) – all welcome! Pilates
Bill Lowrie’s Pilates class will restart in the Village Hall on Wednesday, 24th August from 1.45pm to 2.45pm. The class is suitable for all ages and all levels of experience, so why not drop in and breathe your way to improved posture, muscle tone and core strength during the routines. The class costs £4, which is payable at the door – no need to book. For more information, contact Bill on 07769 624342.
Toddlers
The Toddlers group meets in the Village Hall on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10am to 11.30am with toys and activities for babies and young children under five (and a cuppa and chat for the accompanying adults). There’s a mix of mums, dads and grandparents, and everyone’s welcome. Just drop in and join them, or contact Kimberley on 07812 356664 if you have any queries.
Village Hall
Fairlie Village Hall can be hired for family parties, discos, fundraisers, meetings, classes, etc. There’s a large hall with stage and a small meeting room, and a PA system, urn, crockery, table linen, children’s games, etc. are available for lessees’ use.
