An appeal has been made from the Fairlie Community Trust for more projects to come forward for funding in the village.

Their management committee recently considered applications from Fairlie organisations and individuals for funding from Fairlie’s share of the SSE Hunterston Community Fund.

The Committee is pleased to announce that a grant of £1134 to Organic Growers of Fairlie was agreed, the money to be used for further improvements to the community garden and former pier area.

A decision on an application relating to the Semple Centre was deferred pending further information, while a third application was turned down as not being compliant with SSE’s guidelines.

The committee also agreed to fund work on its own account to improve the shore steps at Bay Street subject to clarification of land ownership.

John Riddell of the Fairlie Community Trust said: "The Trust’s Directors are disappointed to note the very low level of interest within Fairlie for funding for projects which can bring benefit to the village and local community.

"The money is available - its the ideas which are in short supply."
