Dawn Homes are having a forthcoming public exhibition on Monday 28 November from 12.30pm-7.30pm in Fairlie Village Hall regarding around 100 houses on the remainder of the site at Ladies Walk.
At a recent Fairlie Community Council meeting, resident John Riddell stated that the new houses on the Dawn site, which are set to be occupied in January, still didn't have direct pathway access to the adjacent school.
This would result in schoolchildren having to walk down to the Main Road, before heading back up the hill to get to the primary school via School Brae, or the the private steps towards Castlepark Gardens.
Fairlie Council secretary Karla Tully has asked Dawn Homes to provide further details on the path.
Mr Riddell said: "If the new houses are occupied by schools with children, they will want to know how to get to the school without having to walk down to the Main Road and back up again. "
Cllr. Hill said he was struggling to understand how the school was going to accommodate all the extra housing, and added: "It is hard to see where a path would go."
Concerns were raised at Fairlie Community Council regarding access to the school from the current housing being built by the developer, as well as road access, and the whereabouts of a new path.
Resident Steve Graham said: "There were a number of issues which were discussed before with Dawn Homes about where they would put accesses, and where they would put playparks, and they were part of the original consultation. One of the things to make sure of is that all the things that were effectively agreed will be in the ongoing development."
Ron Gilchrist stated that there was supposed to be tree planting, while Mr Graham pointed out that there was a proposed cycle path, and access, and improving Glen Road.
Councillor Alan Hill stated that the community needed to get some direct benefits from the housing development, and advised that the community council needed to consult with Dawn Homes regarding play areas, and improved facilities in the neighbourhood.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “The Dawn Homes housing development in Fairlie includes the provision of a temporary path which leads directly from the development to the rear of Fairlie Primary School.
“Fairlie Primary School is aware of the matter and our Planning Team are currently in discussions with the developer regarding the design of this path along with the provision of long-term access to the school.
“The development also includes a three metre wide shared use path – for walking, cycling etc. which is to be incorporated during the next phases of development.”
