On Friday the children took part in Children In Need. We came dressed in spots and also paid 50p to guess Pudsey Bears Birthday. The winner of Pudsey was Aaron Campbell in P7. The total amount raised was £187.50. Well done everyone. Thanks you to parents for your generous donations and to Mrs Grant and the Enterprise Committee Morrisons (Largs) donated a British apple tree to Fairlie Primary school for planting in our school garden so we can grow our own apples.

On Wednesday last week the three year old British apple tree sapling was delivered to Fairlie Primary School at 1 Morton Terrace, Fairlie by Morrisons Community Champion Joan Downie.

It was delivered along with two crates of apples, so that the children have a chance to taste the apples that the tree will eventually produce.

The traditional British apple tree will take 10 years to grow to full maturity.

When mature, it will be four metres tall and will grow enough apples to feed over 30 Fairlie Primary School pupils during the Autumn harvest time.

Joan Downie Community Champion at Morrisons (Largs) said: “We hope our British apple tree will be a lovely addition to Fairlie Primary School’s garden. We hope that the children will enjoy watering, pruning and looking after it while it grows – and that it bears much fruit for Fairlie Primary school pupils for many years to come.

On Monday ‘Get Cycling’ came to the school. We enjoyed an assembly looking at all the different types of bikes. After this each class enjoyed a session on the bikes outside. There was a variety of bikes to try including a Penny Farthing and go-kart style bikes.

Nursery would like to welcome Mrs McWhirter to the Early Years team. This week the children will make their own recipe to make their cake which we will turn into a recipe book. We are also continuing to recognise coins during play.

P2/1 We have begun our new post office topic and have been enjoying playing in our post office. We have also been writing letters. We are looking forward to our Christmas Nativity with rehearsals already in swing.

P4/3 Our focus in maths has been money. The triangles have been learning about junction machines and the circles are looking at what coins are needed to pay for items. We are also working hard on learning the songs for the Christmas show.

P6/5 We have been reading our class text ‘Tales of the Family From One End Street.’ We have carried out follow up comprehension tasks and used ‘Blooms Taxonomy Fans’ to devise our own questions about the text. In Numeracy we have been working on division and multiplication. Our focus in Science has been the Lungs.

P7 In Literacy, Primary 7 have been writing about their opinion of technology and also created Blackout poetry inspired by Austin Kleon. We have been learning about exchange rates and currencies in Maths and investigating gravity and forces in Science.
