Safely crossing the busy A78 in Fairlie has been made more difficult by the removal of a controversial traffic island, a community councillor has said.
David Telford raised the matter of the traffic island being removed at the entrance of the Dawn Housing site to the police during a recent meeting.
He said: "For a long time we asked for a pelican crossing in that area, but we were instead given a traffic island which wasn't great if you had a 40 tonne lorry whizzing past you, but it was a way of crossing the road, but with the new housing site, even that has been taken away. As it stands, there is no way for people to cross safely.."
Meanwhile, members of the community council stated a BMW vehicle has been 'persistently' jumping the red lights, and Largs Police had been made aware. Community councillor David Telford asked whether the lights, which do have the capability to read number plates, could be used to help prosecute drivers who break the law. He said: "They (Transport Scotland) keep saying it is an experiment so they can't have it, but that reasoning is beginning to wear a bit thin to be honest."
The innovative traffic lights were introduced in April 2015 with cars speeding over 30mph activating the red light.
