It often used to be a familiar sight, but tankers berthing at PeelPorts terminal in Fairlie have been few and far between this year.
On Friday morning, villagers were confronted with the sight. PeelPorts confirmed that the large ship has in fact broken down. The 'News' understands that the vessel has a steering problem, and was taken into the terminal at around 8.30am.
The port used to be a familiar area for coal ships from around the world, but has seen different vessels in the past year including a French navy ship and a cable laying ship.
