More lives will be saved in Largs and Fairlie thanks to three new defibrillators in the local area.

The defibrillator which was located inside Fairlie Village Hall has now been moved to a new 24/7 cabinet outside Fairlie Parish Church.

This means that for the first time residents of the village have access to a defibrillator at any time of the day or night, as opposed to only when the Village Hall is open.

And in further good news, Largs Golf Club has received a new defibrillator following a donation.

Doreen McConnell started the ball rolling in her year of captaincy to obtain a defibrillator which not only serves Largs Golf Club but the community around, and the donation of the live saving device came from St Johns Scotland - a Scottish charity dedicated to helping others through medical and rescue activities. The charity support a number of projects both in Scotland, and across the world.

The Largs First Responders are pictured at the official launch of the re-positioned 24/7 defibrillator in Fairlie.

And another public access defibrillator went live outside Largs Fire Station recently, which has been a joint project between the crew of Largs Fire Station and the Largs First Responder Unit. Firefighters raised money by running a car wash and some funding came from North Ayrshire Council. An official launch takes place next week when more details will appear in the Largs and Millport News.

All the defibrillators are signposted in an easy to access mobile phone app called 'GoodSam' - short for Good Samaritans - which provides details for 'defibs' all over the United Kingdom for iPhone and Android users
