Semple Centre Singers

The Semple Centre Singers meet on Wednesdays from 11am to 12 noon, starting 13th September. They are a small, friendly, cheerful group - not a formal choir - who sing for their own pleasure. Their tastes are wide: Burns; Scots/Irish/Welsh/English folk-songs; Jerome Kern; Negro spirituals; Stephen Foster; some canons, rounds, descants and part-songs; a special song called "Beautiful Fairlie Bay"; some Mozart, Handel and Bizet plus Victorian Music Hall items. It costs £1 per day - but your first "taster" day is free! More details from Alistair Massey - phone 568124 if required.

Barnaby Rudge

On Thursday, 19th October, Fairlie Village Hall will host the Northumberland Theatre Company's gothic adaptation of "Barnaby Rudge" by Charles Dickens. Set against the backdrop of the Gordon Riots of 1780, it’s a story of mystery and suspense which begins with an unsolved double murder, develops to involve conspiracy, blackmail, abduction and retribution, and features Grip, a talking pet raven! With its high drama, strange secrets and ghostly doublings, "Barnaby Rudge" is a powerful blend of historical realism and grotesque melodrama.

Tickets are available from Fairlie Community Association (Tel. 07958 048908; email fairliecommass@gmail.com), or the Gaiety Theatre (Tel. 01292 288235; TheGaiety.co.uk). Prices £10; £9 concessions; £6 under 16s (recommended age 12+)
