Local residents have hit out at the lack of access to Ladies Walk and the petrol station from the Castlepark area of Fairlie.
During a recent community council meeting, Ron Cooper was among a number of residents who voiced dissatisfaction at the lack of access as the stage 2 of the Dawn housing development is set to be built.
The keen countryside enthusiast said: “Surely the North Ayrshire access officer should be fighting our cause - this is an access route according to the access regulations, why can they not provide a route? This area has been a public access for many years.”
Former councillor John Riddell had opposed the stage 2 development on the basis that the path link had not been completed as one of the conditions for phase one..
Ron Cooper asked Fairlie Community Council to contact the access officer at North Ayrshire Council to find out where people stand.
A North Ayrshire council spokesman said: “The existing farm access is not a right of way. On 20 September, 2017, the Council’s Planning Committee granted planning permission for phase 2 of the development which includes a multi-user road from phase 1 to Castlepark Gardens. This road would be a permanent link. A planning condition has been placed on the new planning permission to ensure that the permanent link is provided within 12 months from the date of the consent. Council officers are in discussions with the developer to agree a suitable programme for installation.”
