Pressure grows for Fairlie traffic lights
Pressure is growing for a pedestrian crossing at the north of Fairlie after road officials attended a community council meeting.
Transport Scotland, who attended, stated that following strong representation from the village, they had selected the Fairlie trunk road for a full investigation into disabled access. It was pointed out that this may or may not result in a long awaited traffic crossing.
They said that the A78 would be viewed through the eyes of disabled people, and it could lead to improvements, but would not be drawn on any financial input which could lead from the survey.
Transport Scotland also stated that they would be looking at various traffic calming measures but there was criticism at the "pedestrian refuge areas" which are traffic islands at the north and south of the village.
From personal experience, community councillor Alistair Massey said he felt that the traffic island near the petrol station was "particularly unnerving" for crossing the road when heavy traffic was passing by.
