Hunterston decision "not democratic"
An arch campaigner against Ayrshire Power's plan for a 'carbon capture' coal plant at Hunterston has attacked a judge's decision to throw out a legal challenge.
Professor Tony Meehan, in a letter to the 'News' stated:
"Lord Brailsford is to be congratulated on his judgement against Mr McGinty by which he confirms the death of democracy in Scotland and, in doing so, has ended the right of the individual objection.
He has established a new level of Government non-consultation by ruling that one insert in the Edinburgh Gazette is an acceptable level of public consultation.
In his judgement he ignored the principle fact that the Scottish Government improperly, some might say illegally but knowingly, inserted into NPF2 the designation of the now infamous 'Dirty Coal Fired Power Station' at Hunterston without the required consultation with statutory consultees."
