Regular A78 campaigner Archie Burleigh has written to 'News' voicing concerns about flooding problems on the road between Largs and Fairlie which have not been addressed.

He said: "I haven’t written about the A78 for a while as there have been some improvements in the maintenance of the road on ‘my patch’ between Largs and Skelmorlie. That said however I would enquire whether or not the burghers of Largs and Fairlie are of a similar opinion.

"It is without doubt a dangerous expedition to travel the A78 between these towns during periods of inclement weather. Currently there is the ground water running across the surface at Golf Course brae at two locations. The bus stops at the Marina and Fairlie Bowling Club (South Bound) inaccessible due to extensive dubs and ponds and finally the water running across the road at the breached dyke near the Kelburn Country Centre main entrance.

"None of these problems are new.

"It is high time your readers took up the gauntlet and pressurised the contractor, who bid and won the contract for maintaining the road in a safe and ‘navigable condition’, into action.

"The contact details for Transerv Scotland are ( 0141 218 3800.

"I think that through some concerted petitioning on the part of your readers, the situation will improve timeously."
