A resident from Skelmorlie has said that they share similar problems with Fairlie, and if people don't like it, they should move to another area.

"I am bored senseless with reading EVERY week letters from residents in Fairlie complaining about Hunterston/Coal Terminal and in particular the traffic on the A78.

I really can not comprehend the mentality of people like this. Hunterston and the A78 have been in the village for decades so why move or continue to live there if it annoys you so much? Its a bit like staying next to an airport and then complaining about the noise!

This ongoing debate and insistence about getting speed cameras fitted in the village is beyond a joke.

What makes the people there think they are so special? Does speeding not take place elsewhere? Or is that ok because its out with Fairlie?

We have almost the same volume of traffic roaring through Skelmorlie, possibly more if you include the bus services and people commuting to Largs from Inverclyde, and at much higher speeds as most folk tend to ignore the speed signs on Shore Road as its straight and there is never any enforcement vans or police around to monitor the speed. We also have tiny pavements (yes even smaller than yours in Fairlie) where you can have HGV’s and McGills buses passing literally inches from you. I wont mention the appalling road surface which causes flooding/ standing water.

Does it bother me and other residents? Well, yes, it probably does!

But we accepted that when we moved here as its a package deal and it comes with the territory. If it annoyed me that much I would just move. What I wouldn’t do is moan about it incessantly as if we as a village were being victimised.

And before I get attacked for saying I don’t know what I am talking about: I stayed in Fairlie on the Main Road at Southannan for a year before I moved and guess what? The traffic and the coal terminal that I could see from my window never bothered me once!

I suspect that the main problem in Fairlie is not the roads or Hunterston but the fact that the people there have nothing going on but the rent!
