LARGS Players’ Comedy Theatre opened this week with a young debutant who hopes to head for the bright lights of London.

Eighteen year old James Fox from Fairlie has beaten thousands of hopefuls to be offered a place in the prestigious Central Drama School in the capital city.

The talented teenager who has had starring roles in no fewer than three Barrfields shows this year - Hello Dolly, The Cheviot, The Stag and the Black, Black Oil and Largs Academy’s acclaimed ‘Les Miserables’ takes on several roles in the summer comedy theatre.

Largs Players’ summer season opened on Tuesday in the Brisbane Centre for the 21st successive season and will run on Thursdays and Tuesdays until August 14.

Director Jan Green has acquired five new playlets with varied casts ranging from 5 to 15 minutes each. James Fox plays a gangster in the funny Drving Mr Diddy which is set in Largs.

James, who also plays a policeman and a dog in other sketches, will be aided and abetted by club stalwarts Jon Wilkin, George Whitestone, Angie Kelly, Ruth Donaldson and Isobel Kell.

Jon Wilkin will then take over the director’s role, producing John Godber’s bitter sweet comedy, ‘September In The Rain’ with Pat Nicol and Drew Cochrane playing a Scottish couple who go to Blackpool for their holidays. It is said that some couples might recognise themselves in this play.

The club will reveal brand new sound and lighting equipment for the shows. There will also be a supply of cushions for those who find the council hall seats on the hard side!

All tickets, at £6, are sold on the night of performances with doors open at 7.30pm for the 8pm start. For further information phone 01294 447501 for 01475 675599.
