There could be future Chinese investment in a power plant at Hunterston, a campaigner has predicted.

Professor Tony Meehan who campaigned against Ayrshire Power's coal plant proposal for Hunterston has supported a Fairlie community councillor's warning to remain vigilant over planning applications.

Professor Meehan who has recently left Fairlie to move to the south of England said he expected the Peel company to attract Chinese investment.

In a letter to the Largs & Millport Weekly News Professor Meehan who was one of Scotland's leading public relations professionals stated: "David Telford’s exposure of NAC’s case against the Fairlie by-pass once again proves that statements from, and decisions by, NAC officials are highly questionable. Telford shows, that when properly challenged, NAC has to admit it misled the public. In other words they make decisions to suit themselves and not the community, especially the North Ayrshire community.

If you live south of Seamill you have protection because the majority of the councilors live there. Insofar as the North Coast is concerned they do not care, unless, of course, you happen to be Clydeport or Samsung or any other multi national. Which other local authority would pay tens of thousands of pounds for a commercial business review of an established business whose prime beneficiary is an offshore multi-billionaire recluse?

"NAC’s recent Local Area Plan consultation process was hijacked by Clydeport/Peel Holdings when the company forced the (Scottish Government) Reporter to receive late and misleading evidence to include Hunterston in the LAP as a development site for, amongst other things, an unspecified form of energy producing power station. Is this the resurrection of a coal fired power station?" Professor Meehan added: "According to Peel’s submission the local infrastructure of roads, rail and sea terminals are all perfect and the site can/will be a boost to the local economy and employment. If you ask those who live between Inverkip and Ardrossan they will confirm the A78 is not fit for purpose.

"Not surprisingly nobody from Peel, or their consultants live in the area.

Look out for the Chinese. The British Prime Minister was in China promoting UK’s interests and seeking Chinese investment into major capital projects. In his party were 120 plus executives representing British business. Was Peel Holdings represented?

"Do not be surprised if down the road an announcement is made confirming potential or real Chinese investment into Clydeport Hunterston to build a new energy power station.

The reality of the situation is, as David Telford correctly sets out, NAC will mislead and misrepresent the truth any way they can to ensure their ideas of equality and democracy are upheld.

Get behind David Telford and fight against the inequalities and misleading actions of NAC."
