Fairlie Safe Roads campaign have rescheduled this month’s village meeting till Monday 22 September at 7pm, and will be presenting a petition to North Ayrshire Council next month.

The Scrutiny committee at North Ayrshire Council have written to Caroline Briggs, who organises the Fairlie Safer Roads campaign, in order for their roads petition to be presented at a forthcoming meeting at Cunninghame House in Irvine.

Representatives from the Fairlie group will attend the meeting on Wednesday 8 October, and three group members will have the opportunity to address the committee for ten minutes, detailing the reasons behind the petition, which gained over 500 signatures in the village.

Caroline Briggs said that the fact that the council were prepared to listen to the village action group’s views was good news.

Please note that there is the change of venue for the next public meeting in Fairlie - it will take place in the Millenium Rooms at Fairlie Church Hall on 22 September.

MSP Kenneth Gibson is due to attend, and will give an update on his recent meeting with Fergusson’s Coal.

Mrs Briggs added: “I would urge villagers to come out to our public meeting on 22 September at the Millennium Rooms at Fairlie Church Hall. Please come along and support this. We need the whole village to help keep the momentum up.” Mr Gibson believes the best opportunity of progress with the coal company is to co-operate, and has suggested that the community should engage in a Freight Quality Partnership (FQP) with the company.

At the last Fairlie Safer Roads group meeting, Cunninghame North MSP Kenneth Gibson vowed to relay Fairlie’s concerns at his meeting with Fergussons Coal, with hopes of setting up the lorry liaison partnership group. He also handed a petition from the village to Fergussons concerning safer roads in the area.
