A DRIVER injured in a recent accident on the A78 at Inverkip has joined campaigners to warn that someone will be killed at the ‘danger’ junction unless urgent action is taken.

Inverkip woman Isabella Moore was left with a broken chestbone and was badly cut and bruised following the accident during the festive period.

She said she has been in agony following the collision and now faces weeks of recovery.

Her safety calls have been echoed by MSP Stuart McMillan, pictured right, who was also at the scene of the smash, and has long campaigned for changes to the junction.

The SNP MSP has now asked the new transport minister, Derek Mackay, to intervene.

Isabella, 50 said: “Someone will be killed on that road unless something is done. It is very busy and dangerous.” The accident Isabella was involved in took place on Tuesday 30 December at around 7pm and a 19-year-old faces a charge of careless driving following it.

Concerns were raised about the length of time it took for an ambulance to arrive on the scene, with the Scottish Ambulance Service confirming it took 54 minutes, because of other emergencies.

However, Mrs Moore said it took nearly two hours before she was taken to hospital.

She said: “I was in agony and I was in the car for two hours. As far as I was told, the emergency services thought they were coming to a spillage.

“It turned out I had a fracture of the sternum and I was in the hospital overnight for observation.” She added: “The emergency crews at the scene though were absolutely fantastic.” There have been a number of collisions on the stretch of the road, with campaigner Mr McMillan calling for traffic lights to be installed, or a roundabout.

He has been highlighting the problem for a number of years and has had held talks with Transport Scotland.

The MSP, who lives in Inverkip, said: “If something is not done at that junction there may well be a fatality.

“I was driving home and I saw there was an accident. I went back down and spoke with officers. I have a number of concerns about the junction so I have written to the minister and I have spoken to Transport Scotland about traffic lights or a roundabout.”
