Inverkip is being represented in Rio by a Brazilian who lives in the village, and loves the sailing waters of the Clyde.

Eduardo P Moura, who stays in the Kip Marina village, applied to be a volunteer in his homeland, and was delighted to get the opportunity to be part of the Olympics Water Team looking after the sailing category.

The retired mechanical engineer met wife Lesley, who hails from Dunoon, 33 years ago in South America, and they decided to move to Scotland on the west coast, to be nearer Dunoon.

Eduardo said: "We have been splitting our time between Inverkip and Brazil and have been doing so for the last three years.

"We sail in Brazil and I volunteered for the Olympics. I will be working with the Race Committee for the 470 one design class. We are members of the Royal Gourock Yacht Club and just bought a boat to sail on the Clyde. So you can say Inverkip and the RGYC are represented in the Rio 2016 Games. It is fantastic to be involved."

Eduardo is based at the Yacht Club in Rio during the Olympics.

Wife Lesley is the British Consul in Salvador but they love live in Scotland, and they are well known in Inverkip and Gourock through their sailing adventures.

Eduardo, who is a father of five, is 69, and spends his summers in Inverkip, and is very knowledgeable about boats, making him an ideal candidate to step forward as a volunteer for the Olympics.

Eduardo's friend is Ale Nardini, who owns the Riva Cafe in Inverkip. Ale commented: "Eduardo loves sailing, especially in Scotland. He's very well educated, with an excellent command of English. He is very much Inverkip's man in Rio!"

Eduardo is one of 70,000 volunteers taking part in the Rio Olympics. The successful candidates, who come from 151 countries, will help make history at the first edition of the events to be staged in South America.
