Woman’s Institute

The members of Inverkip Institute met on Monday 12th for their Christmas Party. There were Carols and party games and party food and a raffle before each lady received a gift. The Competition for a Decorated Cup Cake was won by 1st Margaret Anderson, second Anne Devlin and 3rd Kate McPhail.

The fun competition for a Christmas Coaster result was 1st Mavis Rowland, 2nd Anne Devlin and 3rd Kate McPhail.

Guild

Members of Inverkip Guild enjoyed their Christmas Meal and fellowship at Inverkip Hotel on Tuesday evening. The next meeting of the Guild is on 10th January when there will be a Craft Demonstration.

Christmas Eve Services in Inverkip

There will be a Family Service on Christmas Eve at 7pm. The Watchnight Carol Service at 11,30pm Retiring Offering at both services for Children in poverty Inverclyde. Sunday 25th Christmas Day Family Celebration 10am. Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay Church Christmas Eve Services Mince Pies, Shortbread and Christmas Drinks served in the Church Hall at10.30pm Watchnight Service 11.30pm, Christmas Day service at 11.30am Children are invited to bring their presents along.

Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay Church would like to thank those who supported their recent Christmas Fayre. The sum raised was £1213.

Oklahoma

With two of the members of Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay Church appearing in the Largs Operatic Society show Oklahoma in April the Church has acquired 30 tickets and has them for sale at £15 each. Those wishing to purchase them can do so from now. A proposed Pre show meal is planned for that night in the Brisbane Hotel and names should be given for this as well.

Bin Collections Inverkip

A reminder that the bin collections will be one day later than usual over the holiday period. i.e. after Christmas and the New Year.

Post Office

Wemyss Bay is to have a Post Office in the Spar Store; next year will see a Post Office service integrated with the Retail Counter opening at 1pm on 26th January.

Older Trains

The Glasgow to Wemyss Bay line is running older trains while it’s usual ones are being used to train drivers for the Glasgow to Edinburgh line. The older trains have no toilets and are not as comfortable as the usual ones.

Plan Refusal

Plans submitted for 2 semi detached houses were rejected at recent Planning Meeting. The 2 buildings proposed for the area at Cornalees Farm were deemed to breach the policy on development of Countryside as this area is in Clyde Muirshiel area. Decisions on plans for the existing buildings of the old farm are still to be made.

Christmas Decorations

Complaints have been expressed “online” regarding Inverkip’s Christmas decorations supplied by Inverclyde Council. The lone tree being the focus of attention.

Nativity Service

Inverkip had a “Do it yourself” Nativity Service on Sunday 18th when the young folk involved the church congregation in the story. Church Member “volunteered to be Shepherds, Angels and Kings” and the story of the First Christmas was narrated by the Children.
