Inverkip Guild

The Guild met on Tuesday evening 7th February when Mr Owen Quinn told the members and friends of his walk entitled Walking to Santiago De Compostela. It surprised him that only a small percentage of those who make this pilgrimage are British. Owen had prepared for this 800k walk and it was to take 5 weeks. The scenery was stunning and they passed through many small villages which had hostels for those on the walk. Some were large with capacity for 400 travellers. The town of Burgos impressed him with an amazing Cathedral. Some areas were mountainous but one area was as high as a Munro but completely flat which was covered in wheat fields and took 11 days to traverse. Finally at Santiago he visited the Shrine of St. James. Owen had advice for anyone wishing to go on such a trip and spoke of the many friends he met and still keeps in touch with. Mr Quinn was thanked for his talk and the company were delighted to share with Mrs Quinn the Santiago cake she had brought with her for all to sample.
