THE SNOW

As many in the country had the same problem with blocked roads many in Inverkip rallied to support friends and neighbours. Tractors were on the side roads clearing a path for cars and both the Church and School had folk willing to clear both the School and Church surrounding areas among other places. Kind folk went out of their way to see that folk had provisions, even though the local Sainsbury’s had limited supplies substitute items were bought and gifted. Being a recipient of kindness ourselves by folk was special.

DAMAGED ROOF GUTTERS

On Wednesday 28th last month the Police intervened when a gentleman in Wemyss Bay wanted to climb a ladder to attend to a gutter that had been damaged with the heavy snow. He was told he would require scaffolding to carry out the repair. The gutter has now been dismantled.

TAKE CARE

As the snow has gone on the A78 take care, between the Meigle and just past Auchengarth by a stop sing painted on the road there is a deep rut in the middle of the road. This might have been “filled” by the time this appears in the paper as a Transerv van was stationary just beyond it.

CANCELLATIONS

Many meetings were cancelled due to the weather and Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay Church members were invited to the service at Inverkip as their car park and pavements were no go areas.

INVERKIP PRIMARY

Once again Inverkip Primary children will be able to purchase wrapped gifts for Mother’s Day. The 9th March is World Book Day and children at the school will have the opportunity to go to School dressed as their favourite character.

ARDGOWAN EXPLORERS

The Explorers held a Burns Night at Glenkin, Dunoon recently. Everything from the food to the poetry was carried out by the group. Well done to Aidan Phillips of Wemyss Bay who earned his Young leader Belt recently. Aidan is with the Skelmorlie group.

W.E.A.

On 21 March the group will have a talk by John Blease entitled “Japan”. Meeting in the Skelmorlie Community Centre 9.30 for 10am

INVERKIP GUILD

Members of Inverkip Church Guild welcomed Eric Crawford and his guide dog Neena to their March meeting on Tuesday 6th. Eric told them about his experience of having Neena, the training both he and Neena went through and how they get on coping with everyday living. From having his sight reduced to actually loosing one eye Eric eventually was able to qualify for a guide dog and has had Neena for six years.

When they have to travel to the vets in Largs by bus, Eric said that the potholes disturbed Neena! And she is quite happy to travel by plane to Ireland. Flying with Flybe she has her own boarding pass and seat and travels free.

All vet fees, food etc is paid for by the Guide Dog Association although owners can add to this if they wish. When a dog is due to retire they can stay with the blind owner as a pet if so wished. Neena was well behaved and delighted to be petted by the ladies when let off her lead.

QUEEN SCOUTS

Two members of the 85th Scout Troop were presented with their Queens Scouts Award on Wednesday at Inverkip. One Callum and the other one Calum.

PATCHED HOLES

Transerv have done some temporary repairs on the pot holes between Skelmorlie and Largs on Wednesday.
