Largs Agricultural Society held its Annual Dinner in the Willowbank Hotel on Friday evening, 10 February.
The dinner was well attended as it is a popular annual event in the farming community. The President, William McIntyre, was in the chair and welcomed the many members and guests. The top table was piped in by Fraser Blair in fine style. Past President, John Menzies, entertained with a farming poem prior to saying Grace.
The traditional Toast to the Society was proposed by Jimmy Law of Skelmorlie and Jimmy entertained the company with his many anecdotes and poems, assisted by his usual briefcase of props. The main speaker was Drew Cochrane, former editor of this newspaper and Drew had been asked to step in at very short notice. Drew was able to direct his humour at many of the guests attending because of his local knowledge and his many hilarious anecdotes were met with much amusement by the guests.
The President delivered a report on Largs Show held in June 2016 and while some of the cattle entries had been disappointing, the show generally had been a success. The Annual Sheepdog Trials held later in September were as popular as ever and the President thanked all members and supporters for their continued assistance in making these events successful.
The musical entertainment was provided by Papa Booch and the Amigos (William Menzies and his Band) and after a most enjoyable evening the President called on William Scott to propose the vote of thanks.
