A WELL known Largs lady who had a long and active life in the town, has recently passed away. Mary Mushet was born 24 February 1926 in 10 Boyd Street, Largs, and lived all her life in Largs until the last two years which were spent in Speirs nursing home in Beith. She died peacefully in her sleep on Monday February 20, four days before her 91st birthday. Mary worked all her days in Largs firstly with the Tyre joiners, then Moodie McMillan builders followed by DB Walker plumbers and finally at Haylie House where she retired at 70. She was also well known face at polling stations as a presiding officer for over 30 years Mary married Tom Mushet, a Largs plumber, in 1962 and they had 26 years together - Tom died in their caravan at Prestwick in 1988 In 1994, Mary met an old work colleague Alex Wentworth and they enjoyed friendship for many years, they travelled to France on several occasions to take part in military reunions as Alex was a military medal holder. She also accompanied Alex to the local blind club where she was secretary for a few years. Clark Memorial Church played a big part in her life, being christened there, being a Sunday School teacher, a lifeboy officer, a short time as organist, delivered the church magazine, but her greatest love was being a member of the choir which she served for 65 years. although as the minister pointed out she had never actually retired from the choir. The funeral service was held in Clark Memorial Church on Tuesday 7 March, led by the Reverend David Watson with the choir in attendance. One of Mary’s hobbies was doing crosswords which she won prizes on many occasions especially the Largs and Millport News, a copy of which went into her coffin along with her Maltesers which she was never without. Mary is survived by Frances and her husband Robert, grandchildren Gwyneth, Adrian, Melanie, and great grandchildren Ava and Cerys - a long and healthy life, lived to the full.
