A sailor who suffered an accidental head injury managed to alert the coastguard to his plight on Sunday evening.

Largs lifeboat launched to a yacht around 2.5 miles from Rothesay with a lone sailor on board who it seemed had struck his head on what was thought to be the yacht’s own boom. This caused him to be sick and a little delirious, despite his worrying condition he was able to make an emergency call to the Coastguard who, in turn called the volunteers at Largs Lifeboat who boarded the yacht and made an assessment of the gentleman’s condition , administered the appropriate first aid treatment and conveyed the casualty to Rothesay where an ambulance was awaiting.

The yacht was recovered and tied up safely in Rothesay Harbour.

The lifeboat returned to station to be re-fuelled and made ready for her next service.
