Police are appealing for witnesses after a shock attack during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A man was robbed after he was kicked to the ground by one of a gang of four men.

The 24 year old victim was then assaulted and had his wallet and mobile phone swiped.

The gang then made off in a dark coloured saloon car and a small sports car at around 4.45am. The incident happened at Newhaven Grove.

Police confirmed the victim suffered minor injuries.

Police have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and gathering CCTV footage for review.

The suspects are described as Asian, in their mid-20s, of small-to-medium builds and with Glasgow accents. All four were wearing dark coloured clothing.

Detective constable Bryn Meehan said: "I am appealing to anyone who was in the area to contact us.

"Although, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, its possible people were up and may have heard or witnessed the disturbance or may have seen either of the cars as the suspects made off.

"If you did see or hear anything then please do get in touch with us and pass your information on. It could prove vital in helping us trace the people responsible."

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Saltcoats Police Station on 101, quoting reference number 326 of May 10, 2017.
