Another cabaret show played to full houses in the Lounge Clubroom last week as SKELPH, the splinter group of Largs Writers, staged "It's Wan Thing Efter Anither."

As producer, organiser and chief scriptwriter Jack Muir told the audiences it was the third year of the annual event, showcasing the new sketches and poems by local writers, performed by themselves and guest actor Drew Cochrane of Largs Players.

From the opening scene of a packed airport (had there been a United Airlines ejection?) starring Jack and Steve O'Brien, to a final full ensemble planning a sponsored bounce on the prom (in aid of Save The Gretas) there was an amazing 32 separate sketches with humorous poetry spots inbetween.

Writers Club colossus Jim Hardie acted as compere as well as stepping into a few sketches and it is true to say there were generous laughs all the way. Ina Baxter and Alison Green were a fine pair of gossips in Never A Truer Word, parts one and two, while Helen Macari and Bill Douglas appeared as Maw and Paw Broon rowing over domestic matters.

One of the funniest sketches, The Watchers, had a sci-fi element as nosy neighbours Sarah Graham and Steve O'Brien discussed nude sun-bathing and they also teamed up for other spots.

Drew Cochrane teamed up with Ina Baxter as a burglar who gets more than he bargained for in 'Self Employed' and he joined Jack Muir (sporting a big bandage)  in a funny Bag For Life.

The audiences, who sat at tables with drinks, had plenty to cheer about for a fiver. Who knows, there could be "anither thing" next year.
