Taxi boss Chris Boyd has contacted the 'News' to warn the public of heavy road congestion in Largs Main Street at 2pm.
An old lampstand was being taken away but the workers have left, and the pavement work has still to be completed, with the area cordoned off and blocking half of the main road. Traffic lights have been put in position.
Chris Boyd said: "This was unannounced, and it is causing huge tailbacks. There are lorries and buses right down the Main St and Aitken St at the moment."
"I have tried phoning the number of the contractors Morrison Construction but it is disconnected."
A Scotland TranServ spokesperson said: “Subcontractors working on behalf of Scottish Power are carrying out lighting repairs. We are aware of the works and have asked them to do everything possible to reduce disruption.”
