Wee Gordy – a character promoting North Ayrshire’s Child Protection Committee – has been given a new lease of life.

That’s because he has now gone digital and is an animated character, complete with voice and his very own video.

And the video – and Wee Gordy himself – were introduced at a special launch at Brisbane Primary School on Tuesday.

In the video, Wee Gordy goes from a happy-go-lucky young boy to one who worries and feels down. But he learns that there is help out there from a range of adults – such as parents, teachers, carers – if he tells them about his worry. Once he finds the words to talk about his worry to an adult, they listen and help him and he begins to feel happy again.

Copies of Gordy’s Story DVD will be issued to all primary schools, libraries, and family support organisations across North Ayrshire.

Pupils were joined by the Provost Ian Clarkson, Councillor John Bell, Cabinet Member for Education and Youth employment, education staff and partners from North Ayrshire Child Protection Committee at Tuesday’s event, which was opened by Donna McKee, Head of Services Children & Families & Criminal Justice

Councillor Bell said: “A huge well done to everyone involved. This is a fantastic way of engaging with our children and young people to get an incredibly important message out there.

“The North Ayrshire Child Protection Committee do a fantastic job in helping and supporting children and young people who are going through a difficult time. But there are others out there who don’t know where to turn or how to access support.

“Hopefully Wee Gordy will provide some answers for them and it can be the first stage in them getting the support and assistance they deserve.”

Wee Gordy also appears on a range of promotional items and public awareness literature and helps highlight the message that if a child or young person is experiencing worries they should to speak to an adult they can trust.
