The issue of motorbikes gaining free access to Largs seafront car park has been raised with roads officials at NAC.
Douglas Blair, chair of Largs Community Council, raised the concern about lost revenue to the seafront car park fund during the recent North Coast Locality Partnership meeting.
Douglas said: “Most motorcyclists go into the car park and use up spaces, and it is good that they are bringing revenue by coming to the town, but sometimes quite a lot are not paying for any parking aspect. I have also noticed that some vehicles stay overnight and staying longer than 24 hours.”
North Ayrshire Roads responded that they would look into the matter, but conceded that even with additional bollards, it may be difficult to prevent.
Independent councillor Ian Murdoch suggested it may be something that ‘might just have to be accepted’, and added on the overnight parking issue that it is sometimes necessary for various reasons, such as missing the last ferry.
Chairman Alex Gallagher added that the new costing system at the car park with £1 an hour had proved popular and more flexible.
Cllr. Tom Marshall said: “The new charging system at the seafront car park is good and helps local businesses. I don’t think there is a solution to the motorcyclists issue, and it is important to point out that they do bring a lot of revenue to the town.”
