There were a number of Largs connections during the recent Queen’s Garden Party in Edinburgh.
Both the Queen and Prince Philip met a group of six wartime Wrens - aged 89 to 97 - who recounted tales of their work during the Second World War including Largs woman Jean Watson. See this week's Largs and Millport News for her story.
Another guest was the new church minister for St John’s in Largs and Cumbrae Parish Jonathan Fleming.
Jonathan, and wife Karyn were suggested by the Lord Lieutenant in Erskine.
Jonathan has been minister of Erskine Parish Church since 2012, and was voted 2015 Citizen of the Year for his outstanding community work. He is due to start in Largs and Cumbrae later in the summer.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh host around 8000 guests from across Scotland every year in the grounds of The Palace of Holyrood House, which stands at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.
Guests get the opportunity to enjoy tea in the gardens accompanied by music from regimental bands and The Royal Scottish Pipers Society.
